merlin mustek bearpaw scanner 1200 (2005-04-25)
I hate it! I was ripped off when I bought this. How could I know that I would never be able to ugrade it to a new Operating System. You could at least write new drivers for Windows XP and Windows 2000.

I feel cheated!

Rose Mary HughesMy first scanner - content so far. (2002-02-19)
This is my first scanner, so I haven’t much to compare it to. I picked it up to use mostly for scanning items to sell on eBay.

The resolution, in my opinion, has been great. I’ve been using the default resolution setting (which isn’t the highest) and the scanner has been producing images with file sizes up to 5 megs. More than enough for eBay images! It also came with OCR (optical character recognition) software that will supposedly scan a text document and convert it into a Word/Notes document. I’ve yet to use this, but seem to recall another reviewer saying that it wasn’t working as advertised.

The scanner could be smaller. I’ve seen a Canon unit that was about half as thick as the BearPaw. And I always hate it when a product, whether software or hardware, alters or adds programs that aren’t necessary for running the product. Especially my ’startup’ folder. In the case of this scanner, it added another copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 into a different directory than C:program filesadobe. So I had two copies of the Reader program and uninstalled one of them. I hope that didn’t mess up the OCR software program since I haven’t tested it yet. And the Photo Express program that it comes with will start automatically whenever you scan something. This became annoying since I feel more comfortable using Photoshop for image editing. Total programs uninstalled: 2.

Overall, I would recommend this scanner for someone looking for an entry level unit. It should suffice for most duties and then some. And the price is right. Just be sure to go the manufacturer’s site and download the latest drivers. The packaged ones didn’t work for my system (AMD K6-2 proc. running W98). Hope this helps.Truly the Yugo of scanners (2002-01-26)
It looks pretty, little bear paws on the cover. The installation disk aborts immediately when you try to install it under WinXP. There are new drivers available on their website, but you have to call tech support on your own dime to figure out how to install them (i.e. the scanner must be off, download all 14 driver files at 1.2meg each, run the web.exe first, when it says to reboot don’t, run the uplib.exe next, ignore the error messages about not being compatible, ok now reboot, now you can turn on your scanner) When none of the instructions work, they email you stuff to read and hang up on you. You read the stuff they sent and that doesn’t help either, so you call them back, they repeat the process and email you different stuff. After 4 hours of trying to install it and 4 separate tech support calls, I give up.Allright but problems (2002-01-19)
I bought this as a gift for my fiance’s X-mas Gift(he is a computer technician) and he somewhat liked it but hated the fact that it was hard to change the language from french to english and get it to set up. So far he has only used it once because it takes up so much space on his computer but overall it is okNon functional (2002-01-06)
Before purchasing this scanner, realize that it is totally non functional for any modern computer. Out of the box it only has drivers for Windows 95. It will not run on XP, Win2000 or what not. The website does have a section where drivers are allegedly available but THEY WILL NOT DOWNLOAD. It just says "page not found".
I purchased two of these as gifts and now they are just large paperweights (humiliating to me as the gift giver).
My advice..try to download the drivers BEFORE you purchase this.

Customer Reviews:
Works great… for the first week or so. (2008-04-11)
This cable is not durable. We ordered three of them for the college where I work. The first one worked great the first two weeks, but now the cable won’t stay tight, the connection is intermittent at best. The second won’t carry a signal at all. I’m going to make use of the lifetime warranty.

:cCamcorder Cable (2008-03-09)
Item received was as stated and was delivered very quickly. In fact I received an email stating my order had just been shipped, but I had already received the cable and had it in use. Go figure!~*~Fantastic Product and a Great Price~*~ (2008-02-29)
This item was exactly as described and works just like it is designed to. It’s only 3′ which limits how far away from the computer you can sit the video camera. But this length was perfect for me, that’s why I went with this size. The transfer is is great and easy, my computer detected it immediately and gave me options for transferring. The quality was great too. I highly recommend this FireWire!!! Good luck and have fun!Worked as expected (2008-02-22)
there is no much to say about a cable, just that the brand is good, the only thing is that the lenght is quite short for my expectations but it is ok.Product works as it should be (2008-02-15)
Just plug in and it works. The cable looks well made, the data transfer is fine from my camcorder to my notebook computer. Plus, you can’t beat the price.

Customer Reviews:
Very disappointed (2008-03-23)
I so wanted HP to satisfy me–I like the company and hoped it would be a great laptop. However I have been repeatedly so disappointed that I decided to never again buy an HP computer–and I buy one a year. the computer does strange things for no reason…and example is the common problem among HP users: the CapsLock key constantly “sticks” and can’t be unstuck without rebooting, among other strange happenings. HP Customer service is so bad I simply decided to forget them and never buy HP again. It is too bad–this was once a great company… I hope for their resurrection some day to half their once-great status. I was cheering for them, but all they did was disappoint me.Do not buy HP products - very poor customer service (2008-01-03)
Do not buy this product because no matter how much you like this product you will eventually have to call customer service. You will have to speak to someone (several people) from India who will not be able to help you. They don’t care to help you, they will tell you anything to get rid of you. I spent six hours on the phone in the last two days and spoke to seven different people until I could finally speak to a supervisor. They have no problem lying to you and every person I spoke to had a different story as to why they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) help me. Make sure that you keep every bit of information that comes with your product and the dates that you purchased it or ordered parts or batteries for it. They say that you have a one year warranty but if you do not have all of your paperwork they will try to void your warranty even though they have records of everything. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED WITH HP!!works for me (2007-11-06)
i do own the hp dv9030us for a year now, upgraded to vista home premium, and so far no problems at all!!!my only problem is with hp’s customer support, they suck big time, but i think that if u know how to work out your problems without help from best buy or paying money for some dude to install the software for you…u can go along with it.my only problme now: no hp quick launch support for vista…Worst laptop ever - learn from me and buy a Mac! (2007-10-02)
I was thrilled to buy this laptop over a year and a half ago. It replaced a reliable Compaq laptop that lasted me over five years with no problems. This computer looks gorgeous but the numerous bugs have been a huge issue for me. The quick play does not work consistently- it tends to launch the entire computer - not conserving energy as it is supposed to. The Light Scribe sounds good but is complicated and annoying to use. The large screen is beautiful, but the computer is heavy as a result, and it gets very hot if you put it on your knees or legs. Therefore, I spend time hunched over a table when I’d rather be holding the computer on me.

My hard drive completely crashed and HP replaced it under warrenty- but as a result- I lost all of the programs that I had paid to have cleaned and installed at Best Buy. What a nightmare. I am still having a problem that HP says they never noticed with their so called “diagnostics”…. the caps lock will occasionally turn on without me pressing it. When this happens, I have to either type in CAPS without punctuation - or shut down and restart my entire computer. When this occurs mid-e-mail, believe me, it’s VERY ANNOYING!!

I recently bought a new wireless printer and decided to buy an HP- thinking it would be most compatible with my laptop. Ironically, my five year old Mac desktop found the printer, completed the software installation and printed a test page in less than half the time the software install on my HP Pavilion took. The HP Pavilion laptop gave me 3 error messages and made me restart my computer to get to the same stage the Mac did easily and flawlessly. I’ve been torn between the two formats for years - but this confirms it for me. HP SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Avoid them.laptop (2007-07-19)
Im also really please with the performance of this lap top it is amazing how it works with my games and my home daily work. I will like to thank Amazon for being such a great supplier. I will keep purchasing more stuff from this guys.

Customer Reviews:
Forget about big screen T.V….this is better ! (2005-01-02)
In a world of hype and deception, it is great to get a product that does what the ads say it will do. This projector is fantastic. I didn’t have a screen when I first got my H30, so I used a wall for my screen, not even a white wall…..a pale blue one! Everyone commented how clear the picture was. My next-door neighbor has a big screen TV, and he said had he known about the quality of this projector he would have bought it instead. He has a 50 inch screen, mine is over 8 feet, and can be much larger. The color is great, so is the definition. I finaly bought 6 old film projector screens from my local thrift shop. I “pieced” them together to make one big screen. I made a silver colored frame for it. It looks great, and the picture is even better than before. My grandchildren say I have the biggest TV in the world. If you are thinking of buying a big screen TV, you should really consider this Home Theater Projector. You will be glad you did.Great Dedicated Home Theater Projector!! (2004-12-23)
I received the Optoma H30 from Amazon a couple of days ago and I have to say this thing rocks! I thought the 800 x 600 res. would be a problem, but the image is beautiful! Even Hi-Def kicks (insert word here)! I have to admit that out of the box the picture isn’t that great, but with some tweaking one can get the image to spectacular. The projector its self is well-built and seems sturdy and durable. The 6 seg color wheel makes for very accurate and vivid colors, including incredible blacks. Since the color wheel is 4x rainbows are hard to come by. The remote is great because it’s average size which means even I can’t lose it. The menu on this projector is great, it seems like you can tweak almost everything. I would reccomend this projector to a person who’s on a budget, but non the less wants a great quality product.
